Professor Menezes holds a bachelor’s degree with teaching certification in history from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IFCS/UFRJ), and a master’s degree and doctorate in social anthropology from the Graduate Program in Social Anthropology from the National Museum (PPGAS/MN/UFRJ). She completed a postdoctorate at the Brazilian Center for Analysis and Planning (CEBRAP, 2005 and 2006) and PPGAS/MN/UFRJ (2014 and 2015). She was an adjunct professor in the Department and Graduate Program of Anthropology at the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM, 2006 and 2015).

Her research covers anthropology of the environment and development, rural anthropology, and anthropological theory.
