Professor Medeiros holds a bachelor’s degree with teaching qualification from the University of Sao Paulo (1971), a master’s in political science from USP (1983), and a doctorate in social sciences from UNICAMP (1995).

She is the coordinator of the Research, Documentation, and Reference Center on Rural Social Movements and Public Policy, and member of the Observatory on Public Policies for Agriculture (OPPA), both part of CPDA/UFRRJ.

From a sociological perspective, she has researched such topics as rural social movements, land ownership policies, rural settlements, political dimensions of agribusiness, the relationships between law and rural social conflicts, and resistance and organization among rural workers during the military regime (1964–1985).

She was secretary of the Latin American Rural Sociology Association (ALASRU) from 2007 to 2010 and President of the Rural Studies Network from 2010 to 2012.
