Professor Castro holds an undergraduate degree in social sciences (IFCS/UFRJ), a master’s in sociology and anthropology (PPGSA/UFRJ), and a doctorate in social anthropology (PPGAS/MN/UFRJ); her thesis, entitled Entre o Rural e o Urbano– uma etnografia da categoria juventude rural [Between Rural and Urban: An Ethnography of Rural Youth], under the guidance of Professor Moacir Palmeira, was published in 2013 (Contra Capa, with support from FAPERJ).

She teaches undergraduate courses in social sciences and in two graduate programs, at PPGCS and the CPDA.

From September 2011 to June 2015, she was granted leave to serve as General Coordinator of Transverse Policies for the National Youth Secretariat (SNJ/SG/Brazilian Office of the President).

From July 2015 to June 2016 she then served as Coordinator General of Support to Collegiate Bodies (SDT/MDA), coordinating the Extension Centers in Territorial Development and connecting with social movements and managers to manage rural territories.

She is also part of CLASCO’s Infances y Juventudes working group, and co-coordinator of the CNPq working group on Gender and Ruralities.

Her work addresses social markers, youth, political participation, the agrarian issue, rural youth, public policies and gender and political identity.
