Professor Lerrer holds a doctorate from CPDA/UFRRJ and a master’s degree in communication sciences from USP. She did her international PhD internship at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes de Sciences Sociales (EHESS/Paris) and a postdoctorate in public policy and human education at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (PPFH/UERJ). She also holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from UFRGS.

She has conducted research on rural conflicts, the Brazilian landless worker’s movement (MST), the agrarian issue in Brazil, agribusiness, journalistic mediation, and rural higher education.

She is the author of Reforma agrária: os caminhos do impasse [Agrarian Reform: Pathways to Deadlock] and De como a mídia fabrica e impõe sua verdade: a “degola” do PM pelos sem-terra em Porto Alegre [How the Media Manufactures and Imposes its Truth: The “Slaughter” of Police by Landless People in Porto Alegre].
